Hike to the Rocky Men
How to get there: From the Passiria Valley to Merano, in the direction of Hafling and on to Vöran. You then come to a fork in the road in the forest, where you keep left towards Jenesien and park your car at the free Scheermoos car park.
Route: From the car park (approx. 1400 m) follow trail E5 (sign: Möltner Kaser) for a short distance along the tarmac road, then on a narrow path through the forest up to the glowing larch meadows of the Möltner Joch. We reach a forest path, hike past the weather cross of the Möltener Joch (1733 m) and soon reach the Möltener Kaser hut (1763 m). Now we walk up through the forest to the broad crest of the Hohe Reisch and up a moderate incline to the countless Stoanernen Mandln (2003 m). We enjoy a panoramic rest with views of the Dolomites, the Sarner mountains, the Ortler group and the Texel group. Then we take the ascent path back to Schermoos and the car park.
- Metres in altitude: 550 hm
- Walking time: 4:30 h (go & back)
- Distance: 12,7 km
Summary: A fantastic autumn hike with a far-reaching view of the Dolomites. But also in spring, when the crocus blossom, the tour is simply unique. As you can see, it is difficult for us to decide. Therefore, we recommend that you simply try both ;-)
Witch cult on the mountain
...or all fake? More than one hundred mysterious stone figures are lined up on a hilltop at 2000 m above sea level. To this day, there is disagreement about how the figures were created. Some even contain prehistoric features. For example, prehistoric flint tools and stone engravings were found at the Rocky Menon the Tschögglberg. What we can confirm with certainty, the legendary place is a true place of power with a spectacular panorama of the surrounding mountains...;-)
